Audition Notice:
Dancers Needed for
A Dance and Virtual World
Mixed Reality Performance Research Project
Richard James Allen and Karen Pearlman of The Physical TV Company are working with Gary Hayes of MUVEDesign to research the creative possibilities of mixed reality performance. Half in real life and half in the virtual world online platform called Second Life, this work will explore the ideas, aesthetics and narrative potentials of the meeting of live and digital dancers. This cross-reality performance project will break new technological ground and explore a wide range of dance and virtual environments. Research will develop over a two stage process: trying out a spectrum of ideas and then refining those which show the greatest potential to make the crossing of realities into a substantive creative work.
The first stage of this exploration will take place at Critical Path in Sydney between Saturday January 3 and Sunday January 11, 2009. There will be opportunities for dancers who would like to participate in the whole project as well as for those who only have time to participate on selected days. Dancers who would like to be involved are asked to email your CV and photos (small size please) to both PhysicalTV@bigpond.com and PhysicalTV@gmail.com. Please let us know why this area of research is of interest to you. You may be contacted about an audition on Saturday January 3. Morning warm-up sessions for dancers on this project will be free to the professional dance community. These will consist of a yoga warm-up, followed by a ballet barre and a contemporary centre. Please email PhysicalTV@bigpond.com or text 0402 630 325 for details of warm-up times and dates.
