2006 Screendance: The State of the Art Conference

Dr Karen Pearlman and Dr Richard James Allen participated in the 2006 Screendance: The State of the Art Conference, directed by Professor Douglas Rosenberg and held at the American Dance Festival, Duke University, Durham, NC, USA.

As well as engaging in lively and stimulating debate and discussion, Karen presented a paper entitled, "Editing as a Form of Choreography: Comparing the crafts, the creative porcesses and the "intuitive" thinking of editors and choreographer", and Richard presented "Stories Told by the Body: A curated screening highlighting ways that drama and narrative intersect in selected Australian/New Zealand films that are physically told".

There were many interesting presentations at the Conference from a broad array of international artists and academics.  A pdf of the proceedings is available here.  As with all texts on this site, this document is copyrighted and all rights are reserved.

Karen's review of the Conference, "A Dance of Definitions", was published in Australia by RealTime and is available here.  The Venn Diagram above was a visualisation of some of the key findings of the conference.
