(WITH DIRECTOR/CHOREOGRAPHER RICHARD JAMES ALLEN

& PRODUCER/EDITOR KAREN PEARLMAN JOINING US ON-STAGE)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Thursday 7th June 2007: Popcorn Taxi is very proud to present two extraordinary Australian 35mm short films, both mythical and fantastical in their own ways, Darlene Johnson’s CROCODILE DREAMING, and Richard James Allen’s THURSDAY’S FICTIONS.   Tickets are available online - click here.

CROCODILE DREAMING is a project developed by writer/director DARLENE JOHNSON and the legendary Australian actor, DAVID GULPILIL.  It is seen as a modern day, supernatural myth about two estranged brothers who are brought together through the spirit of their mother.  It is a story about loss, love, brotherhood and freedom and the search for identity.  As DARLENE observes, “Crocodile Dreaming is important to me because of the journey it has allowed me to make, a journey that is not yet over, nor probably ever will be--a spiritual journey to connect with the origins of what I am, and why I am.”

The journey in THURSDAY’S FICTIONS equally explores the notion of identity through the cinematic experience of music, dance and surreal fantasy.  A woman named Thursday, realises she is running out of time in a world in which people live only for the length of a day.  She discovers she is going to be reincarnated as Tuesday and in her attempt to cheat the cycle of reincarnation, she unleashes a terrible beauty that leaves the other ‘days of the week’ in turmoil. According to director and co-writer RICHARD JAMES ALLEN, the film is highly imaginative and richly textured in its ability to allow different art forms to blend together in concert towards an immersive sensory whole.  The film was awarded the Gold Medal for Excellence, Director’s Choice for Artistic Excellence in a Feature Film, at Park City Film Music Festival.  For more information on the film, please visit the website <http://www.thursdaysfictions.com/>

Joining us on-stage after the screenings will be DARLENE JOHNSON, RICHARD JAMES ALLEN and Producer/Editor KAREN PEARLMAN for an audience Q&A and to discuss their own ‘journeys’ in making these films.
