Workshops and Seminars in Dance on the Screen

The principle artists of The Physical TV Company, Richard James Allen and Karen Pearlman, draw on their wealth of experience nationally and internationally in dance, film/video arts, contemporary performance, writing and teaching to offer workshops to tertiary and secondary students and teachers.  These exciting, interactive and information packed sessions are suitable for students, educators or practitioners in dance, media and communications, and theatre.

Modules can be selected individually or in combinations that suit the timetables, facilities and needs of individual institutions.  Duration and scheduling can be adjusted to suit availability of facilities and student’s schedules.

1.    Physical TV and Dance on Screen – a three hour seminar which includes screenings of recent works by The Physical TV Company, discussion by Pearlman and Allen of how individual works were made, what dance on screen is, and how the company operates.
2.    The Craft of Dance on Screen  - a two-day workshop which includes four separate modules, each focussed on a different area of dance for the screen.  These include the a) Physical TV and Dance on Screen overview seminar,
b) A workshop on Writing and Choreographing dance for the screen,
c) A workshop on Directing and Cinematography for dance on the screen,
d) A workshop on Editing and Sound for dance on the screen.
3.    Making Dance on Screen – a two-week intensive that incorporates The Craft of Dance on Screen series and guides the students through the actual creation of their own short dance for the screen from beginning to end.
